Trammo and Allied Green Ammonia Sign MOU for the Offtake of up to 100% of Green Ammonia Produced at AGA’s Australian Facility

Rue Balzac, Paris

May 20, 2024

Trammo, the world’s leading independent ammonia trader, announced the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) between Trammo SAS, its French subsidiary, and Allied Green Ammonia Pty Ltd (AGA), an Australian company developing a facility expected to produce approximately 950,000 tons per annum of green ammonia.

Under the MOU, Trammo would purchase up to 100% of the green ammonia produced by AGA in its facility located in the Northern Territory of Australia.

Trammo plans to supply ammonia to its customers worldwide using its specialized fleet of refrigerated vessels. The first sales from AGA are expected to occur in the fourth quarter of 2028.

AGA will operate a 2,700 metric tonne-per-day green ammonia process at its production facility in Nhulunbuy, Grove Peninsula. The facility will harness abundant renewable energy resources and world-leading energy infrastructure to offer a strategic supply of sustainably produced, green ammonia to its trading partner Trammo.

The AGA facility will be one of the largest of its kind globally. Green hydrogen produced onsite will help decarbonize the ammonia production process and provide a reliable and secure supply of green ammonia while playing a meaningful role in avoiding an estimated 1.8 million tons of global carbon emissions annually.

Trammo SAS President Christophe Savi said: “We are delighted to sign this MOU and partner with AGA. Both companies aim to develop clean and decarbonized solutions for global consumers, and this MOU is consistent with Trammo’s active role in the transition to decarbonizing the ammonia industry by helping to make available in the market significant volumes of green ammonia by 2030.”

AGA Founder & Managing Director Alfred Benedict said: “Allied Green Ammonia is excited to announce the execution of this MOU with Trammo, marking a significant collaboration with one of the foremost global entities in the sector.  This partnership represents a pivotal achievement in the advancement of AGA's green ammonia project, which is poised to become a leading green ammonia production site globally. The collaboration between AGA and Trammo is a foundational move, affirming our joint dedication to spearheading clean energy initiatives and contributing to the global effort towards a net-zero future.”
